The Falls Church News Foundation is a nonprofit, non-partisan organization formed by Falls Church residents who believe local journalism matters—and want to make sure it continues to thrive in the Little City by harnessing the expertise, energy, and enthusiasm of the community.
Local journalism serves as the heartbeat of a thriving community, fostering a sense of belonging by celebrating our most significant milestones—from wedding announcements to academic and athletic achievements—alongside essential coverage of local institutions and issues.
By documenting everything from the arts to school notices, these stories create a shared narrative that binds neighbors together and honors the collective life of the area. We are deeply committed to the power of local storytelling. Whether those stories are shared in print or on mobile phones, we want to ensure that this tradition endures.
Our goal is to welcome a whole new generation of readers and journalists into the newspaper-loving family—and to ensure that Falls Church continues to have strong, independent local news for years to come.

Roadmap to strengthening journalism in Falls Church
The Falls Church News Foundation was born at a moment when the need for strong, independent local journalism has never been clearer. With your investment, we can make sure Falls Church continues to have robust coverage that ties the community together.
While the Foundation is still in its early days, the challenge it seeks to address is urgent—and the opportunity before us is enduring. Our goal is to ensure not just that local journalism in Falls Church survives but that it can flourish.
This work requires more than sustaining a single newsroom. It calls for renewing the civic and economic conditions in which local journalism can take root, earn trust, and endure across generations. To meet that challenge, we have established five core pillars—designed not only to strengthen journalism today, but to build a resilient, community-supported model that secures the long-term future of independent local news in Falls Church.

Listen: Conduct community listening sessions to find out what people want to read about in the news.
Partner: Develop partnerships with existing local outlets to help strengthen their coverage and journalism. Partner with local talent to commission high-impact stories about the community which can be offered for publication by existing local news outlets.
Support: Raise funds and offer competitive grants to local news organizations to support special projects.
Cultivate: Raise the next generation of local journalists by linking area students with volunteer journalism professionals for mentoring and story editing support with the goal of getting the students published by existing local news outlets as well as on the Falls Church News Foundation website.
Gather: Raise funds from community members, businesses and foundations to support the Foundation and its work.
