Freelance Journalists, Editors & Photographers: Are you a local journalist, editor, or photographer interested in freelancing? Are you a student exploring journalism? Or an experienced journalist willing to serve as a mentor? We are building a network of contributors and mentors committed to strong local reporting—please reach out.

Legal and organizational expenses required to complete nonprofit formation and regulatory compliance

Staffing capacity, and—if sufficient funding is raised—the hiring of an Executive Director/Editor to expand coverage, deepen reporting, and take Falls Church journalism to the next level

The Falls Church News Foundation is committed to transparency and editorial independence. Community support strengthens local journalism—but it never buys influence.
We publish the names and giving levels of all donors to acknowledge their support and to ensure the public knows who is funding our work. This list is updated regularly.
We do not accept anonymous donations or gifts with conditions, expectations, or influence attached.
When reporting on an individual or entity that has contributed $500 or more, we disclose that support within the story.
Submit Story Ideas and News Tips
Please share your story ideas and news tip here. Someone from the Foundation will reach out to you for more information, but please share as much information as you can, answering the who, what, when, where, why and how. If this matter is sensitive, let us know. We can protect your anonymity.
Initial Community Engagement
Through the fall of 2026, we are inviting members of the public to play an active role in shaping the Falls Church News Foundation’s priorities.
Through community listening sessions and open engagement, we are seeking input to identify the issues that matter most to residents, surface underrepresented voices and perspectives, and better understand gaps in existing local coverage.
Feedback gathered through this process will directly inform our reporting priorities and guide the development of thoughtful, long-term coverage strategies.
By listening first, we aim to ensure that our journalism is relevant, inclusive, and grounded in the lived experiences of the community we serve.
Insights from these sessions will be summarized and made public and will be used to shape editorial focus and future reporting.
Community Survey
We invite all members of the public to participate in our community survey to provide feedback and thoughts, share lived experiences, local concerns, and ideas for future news coverage. The survey will be open for ideas and comments through the end of September 2026.
Community Listening Sessions
The Foundation will host a minimum of three facilitated Community Listening Sessions to hear directly from Falls Church residents and community leaders about the issues they care most about and believe deserve sustained local reporting.
One session will solicit feedback from local civic organizations; a second will focus on the business community; and a third will be open to all members of the public.
Foundation representatives will facilitate each discussion, listen carefully, and take detailed notes to identify recurring themes, information gaps, and community priorities.
